The medical insurance requirement

Due to a regulation of the European Union (decision 2004/17/CE of December 22nd 2003), there is a new requirement to get a Schengen visa.

You have to apply for a visa with a letter from your insurance company (a copy of your card is not enough) stating that you will be covered in Europe for any medical and repatriation expenses, during your whole stay, for at least $40,000.

You have to check with your insurance company to get this letter.

If your insurance company does not provide such a coverage, you have to find an international insurance (do not forget to ask for the letter above mentioned).

We kindly remind you that this is a compulsory document.
